Ångström is the future for the world of machines and highly portable and reconfigurable core, built using the
OpenEmbedded build system. It is intended to run on all devices with a 2.6.x kernel OpenEmbedded supports,
with special attention to embedded devices (PDAs, handhelds, phones, routers, etc.). Ångström is a modern
Linux-based distribution targeted for Embedded Devices, and thus offers all features that are used with a
"desktop" distribution.

e-con Systems Inc., an embedded Product Development partner, based out of St. Louis, MO and Chennai, India today announced the release of the PXA300 Reference design code named Alioth for their eSOM300 - PXA300 system on module.
This release is an ideal generic platform to get customers application development started. Alioth is
unique when compared with its market leading cousin Regulus – eSOM270 Reference design in terms of
application-specific carrier board, specifically designed for Industrial applications like Industrial
Controllers, In-Vehicle Telematics, Vehicle Mount Systems, Test & Measurement Equipment, Mobile
devices and MIDs WebPads.
Other than bringing out all the peripherals that are supported by the eSOM300 on to the carrier board like
Ethernet, Touch screen, SDIO, SPI, I2C, LCD controller, 3 UARTs, 1 wire, local bus expansion, USB high
speed client, camera interface, the Alioth board supports peripherals like CAN controller, 8 channel 16 bit
ADC controller, Analog VGA, USB 2.0 host and RS485. Optionally, customers can choose to have a LCD
of 4.3" (480x272) / 7" (800x480) with Touch screen. As part of the rapid development kit, e-con Systems
provides detailed schematics, hardware user manual, Bill of material, application notes to help the

e-con Systems launched the eSOM300, a Computer-on-Module based on Marvell's PXA300 processor, suitable for embedded applications requiring a combination of low power consumption and mid-range processing and GUI performance. Some of the applications where it can be used are point of sale, handheld and mobile terminals, vehicle mount systems, Kiosks, test & measurement equipment and gaming machines.
"The eSOM300 - PXA300 Cmputer on Module will help our customers who have been requesting us for higher memory requirements and features like graphics acceleration and USB 2.0 device interface. The PXA300 is an ideal processor for Industrial Embedded Solutions, Handheld Devices and devices such as portable navigation devices (PNDs because it scales up to 624Mhz in clock speed with power consumption as low as 1.5W and to less than 100mW in low power modes.
