Sep 11th, 2013 - e-con Systems Launches Reference Design Kit for CX3
e-con Systems Inc., announces the launch of the Denebola (See3CAM_CX3RDK) Reference Design Kit based on EZ-USB® CX3 USB 3.0 Peripheral controller from Cypress Semiconductors. e-con Systems, a Silver level partner of Cypress Partner program, has developed this USB Video Class (UVC) reference design kit for EZ-USB® CX3. This RDK is being launched by e-con Systems on the side lines of the launch of the EZ-USB® CX3 by Cypress Semiconductors.
The Cypress EZ-USB® CX3 is a USB 3.0 peripheral controller that enables developers to add USB 3.0 connectivity to any image sensors compliant with Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Camera Serial Interface Type 2 (CSI-2) standard. The Denebola Reference Design Kit developed using EZ-USB® CX3 is a complete Reference Design Kit and has OmniVision OV5640 CMOS image sensor interfaced to it through 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface. This is a fully functional camera reference design kit that can stream uncompressed video 720p60, 1080p30 and full 5MP@15fps. The Reference Design Kit is fully compliant with USB Video Class (UVC) Specification and is compatible with the UVC class drivers supplied by Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
The Denebola CX3 RDK will be part of the See3CAM family of USB 3.0 cameras. The See3CAM is a family of USB 3.0 UVC-compliant cameras from e-con Systems that are targeted at high end imaging applications such as Full HD or more video recording, video analytics and HD video conferencing. The Denebola RDK contains the CX3 base board and OmniVision OV5640 based autofocus camera module daughter board. The interchangeable camera daughter board allows e-con to bring out more daughter boards with various CMOS image sensors in the future. This also allows our customers to quickly evaluate any CMOS/CCD image sensor they want. As the UVC firmware stack is production ready, customers can just develop the daughter boards for their image sensor and just initialize the sensor to stream at any one of the supported video formats of RDK to quickly evaluate their image sensor. This will reduce the time and effort to be spent by our customers for any new sensor evaluation and optimization process.
This RDK will benefit our customers and end users to evaluate the EZ-USB® CX3 peripheral controller for its use in USB 3.0 centric camera applications. Since the camera side interface of CX3 is compliant to the industry standard MIPI CSI-2 interface, a large number of commonly available image sensors can be effortlessly integrated with the EZ-USB® CX3 chip. The customers need not have to spend time and effort on bringing up a new camera evaluation platform, rather concentrate only on the camera daughter board with MIPI CSI-2 interface and the sensor initialization to get it working in a short span of time." said Mr. Ashok Babu, President - e-con Systems. "The partnership with Cypress Semiconductor in bringing up this RDK will help the customers of Cypress Semiconductors for use of their EZ-USB® CX3 device controllers and for e-con's customers to take advantage of the fully functional USB 3.0 UVC camera reference design solution. added Mr. Ashok Babu.
e-con has developed the UVC stack that runs on the See3CAM family of cameras powered by Cypress EZ-USB® FX3 (predecessor to EZ-USB® CX3). The UVC stack of the CX3 RDK is also UVC standard-compliant and hence does not require any special drivers on the PC side. Any standard UVC application (DirectShow compliant application in Windows or V4L2 compliant application in Linux) can be used with our RDK.e-con is offering the customization services to port the UVC stack for any new image sensor as per customer requirements.

Aug 10th, 2012 - EMS builds Race Dash - EDL7 based on e-con systems' Computer on Module - eSOM300
EMS is one of two Australian Engine Control Unit(ECU) manufacturers that make ECUs, Capacitive Discharge Ignition units (CDIs), and Race Dashes as well as ancillary products such as igniters and K-Type amplifiers. EMS is now launch ready for their new Race Dash- EDL-7.
EMS is the first australian company to release a full colour touch screen display. The EDL7 Race Dash & data logger can log and display data from any EMS ECU and its built-in data collection channels. The EDL7 is a complete display system with a low-glare 7 inch color touch screen display.
e-con Systems is proud to be associated with EMS. EDL-7 uses e-con systems' Computer on Module - eSOM300™. EMS designed their carrier boards with eSOM300 reference design. eSOM300 is based on XScale®/ARM PXA300 application processor from Marvell and is an ideal choice for embedded applications requiring a combination of low power consumption and mid-range processing and GUI performance, both in consumer and industrial environments.
"We met e-con Systems when we were looking out for a Windows CE based COM vendor. We knew that they were Microsoft Windows Embedded Gold Partner. Our intention was that the COM should have a stable and formidable BSP since our application is going to run on top of it. The eSOM300 Computer on module not only had a stable Windows CE BSP on top of it but also had good amount of hardware documentation which helped us engineer a carrier board to it quickly. We had little time to finish the prototype. e-con Systems completely won us over with their dedicated & faster technical support and helped us reach the market quickly.
We are happy to haven chosen e-con Systems as our computer on module partner. I would readily recommend them & I wish to work with them in future projects also." said Manuel Dindakis,
Product Design Manager,
EMS Computers.
