Many color cameras come with a Color Filter Array (CFA) that follows the Bayer BGGR pattern. However, the sensitivity of the RGB channels results in capturing visible and IR light. This leads to degradation in image quality due to color distortion. Also, it becomes challenging to measure the intensity of IR light. Traditionally, an IR cut filter was used to address the issue, but this mechanical operation can cause wear over time, which reduces the system's lifespan.
An RGB-IR camera uses a specialized CFA with distinct pixels for visible and IR light. It ensures the capture of both images without relying on a mechanical switch. e-con Systems offers off-the-shelf and custom RGB-IR cameras for applications that require simultaneous visible and IR imaging. We offer a combination of sensor, optics, and ISP to help overcome the biggest industry challenges.
