Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

General Information

1. What is See3CAM_CU83_CHLCC_H0xR1?

+

See3CAM_CU83_CHLCC_H0xR1 is an 8 MP, RGB-IR, rolling shutter camera based on onsemi's AR0830 1/2.9" image sensor. It is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 camera with a Type-C reversible interface and comes with an S-mount (M12) lens holder.

2. What makes See3CAM_CU83 unique?

+

See3CAM_CU83 can simultaneously stream both RGB and IR frames using an FPGA with e-con's proprietary algorithms to separate the RGB and IR frames. And with the built-in ISP fine-tunes the RGB frames while streaming IR frames separately.

3. What advantage does the See3CAM_CU83 camera offer?

+

See3CAM_CU83 streams both RGB and infrared (IR) frames simultaneously, eliminating the need for a mechanical switch to toggle between the two modes. This simultaneous streaming enhances efficiency and reliability for applications that require both visible and IR imaging.

4. What does the camera kit contain?

+

Below is a table summarizing the contents of the See3CAM_CU83 camera kit for both the 940nm and 850nm variants:

Item 940nm Variant 850nm Variant
Part Number See3CAM_CU83_CHLCC_H02R1 See3CAM_CU83_CHLCC_H03R1

Camera Features and Specifications

5. What image formats does the camera support?

+

The camera supports Y16, UYVY, and Y8 formats, with RGB-IR and IR-specific modes.

6. Is there any special configuration needed for dual-mode (RGB+IR) operation?

+

Yes, a special configuration is required for dual streaming (RGB+IR). You need to use our proprietary application, which follows a specific logic to separate the processed color (RGB) and IR frames, to preview both streams.

7. Can I get the IR stream alone?

+

You can capture the IR stream alone by selecting a resolution of 920 x 675. The IR stream will be available in Y16 format with 10-bit RAW output.

8. How can the camera's frame rate be controlled?

+

The frame rate can be adjusted through Human Interface Device (HID) controls, allowing users to set a custom frame rate depending on their application.

9. Does the camera handle light flicker (e.g., from fluorescent lights)?

+

Yes, the camera features an anti-flicker mode, designed to reduce or eliminate flicker from artificial light sources such as fluorescent or LED lights.

10. Will See3CAM_CU83 support both 850nm and 940nm IR spectrums?

+

Yes, the See3CAM_CU83 camera can operate with both 850nm and 940nm IR wavelengths. Currently, the camera is equipped with a 940nm IR filter that is fine-tuned to deliver high-quality images in both RGB and IR modes. If you require the 850nm variant, please contact us camerasolutions@e-consystems.com - , and we can provide you with an engineering sample.

Lens and Customization Options Does the camera handle light flicker (e.g., from fluorescent lights)?

11. Can the lens of the camera be customized?

+

Yes, the camera comes with an M12 lens holder, allowing the use of different lenses to suit various applications.

12. Can I change the lens mount from S-mount to C-mount?

+

Yes, switching to a C-mount lens holder is possible through the hardware customization. Contact us at sales@e-consystems.com for any custom requirements. You could check out our camera customization page to learn more about the different types of customization services we offer.

13. I need a different lens to cover a wider FOV (Field of view). How to do it?

+

The camera features an M12 lens holder, allowing you to use any standard S-mount lens (M12 x 0.5) with the default lens holder. Please write to camerasolutions@e-consystems.com for lens suggestions. To learn the best practices for choosing an M12 lens for your end applications, please check out our article: Ultimate Step-by-step Guide to choosing an M12 lens for your embedded camera application.

14. Can I use my 850nm bandpass filter lens with the 940nm variant of See3CAM_CU83?

+

No, the 850nm bandpass filter should not be used with the 940nm variant, as the camera requires different image tuning for each IR spectrum.

Compatibility and Compliance

15. Does the camera require any special drivers?

+

No, the camera is UVC compliant and works with standard drivers available in both Windows and Linux operating systems.

16. Is this camera available with other interfaces?

+
